We keep reminding ourselves that this will probably be the last place in which we live before we shake hands with the grim reaper. To ensure he doesn't take us by surprise we discuss, quite frequently, the preparations we should make so that those we leave behind will have all the information to hand to make the registering of our death less stressful.
This is what we have come up with -
- Make known your doctor's name and contact address for a medical certificate of death to be issued.
- Keep all relevant information, that is required to register your death, and ensure that the person who will be the informant knows where the information is stored.
- Let your relatives know if you have pre-arranged your funeral, and of any special requirements you want for your funeral.
- Keep all relevant information relating to your income, benefits and taxes so that they can be passed on to the various government departments.
- List the names, postal/email addresses and telephone numbers of all the people you want informed of your demise.
- Make a list of family heirlooms and personal possessions and how they are to be distributed. Make a note of how pets are to be looked after.
